Expert Tip: Kitchen remodels should meet your functional needs first and your personal style Second

When we meet with clients to go over their kitchen design, we use painters tape to provide a visual layout so you can stand at your future sink location and load dishes or open your fridge to ensure it doesn't hit a wall or cabinet. We provide 3-D renderings and a virtual walk through of the space to ensure the end result fits your vision and needs.

Which Kitchen Countertops should you choose?

Here are several options with the pro's and con's for each type of kitchen countertop.

Natural Stone Quartzite vs.
Engineered Quartz

When choosing countertops for your kitchen renovation, it’s important to consider factors like durability, heat resistance, and susceptibility to staining or chipping. Natural quartzite countertops are highly regarded for their exceptional durability and heat resistance, making them perfect for high-traffic kitchens. They can withstand hot pots and pans without damaging the surface. However, since quartzite is a natural stone, it requires sealing to protect against stains, and while it's tough, it's not entirely immune to chipping if exposed to heavy impacts. Each quartzite slab is unique, offering a luxurious, one-of-a-kind aesthetic that can be hand-selected at the distributor’s location.

Engineered Quartz

On the other hand, engineered quartz countertops—made by crushing natural quartz and mixing it with polyester resins and pigments—are also durable but less heat-resistant than quartzite. Direct contact with high heat can cause damage to the resin. Engineered quartz is non-porous, making it highly resistant to staining and scratching without the need for sealing. To clean up minor stains we trust Barkeeper's Friend to polish out and residue or stains. Engineered countertops are an excellent choice for homeowners looking for low-maintenance, stylish countertops at a more affordable price point.

Where to Look for stone Countertops

For our customers wanting a larger selection and to look in person, we recommend visiting Denver Stone Collection for a wide selection of quarried natural stone options, or Stoneworks of Colorado in Loveland, CO for a range of engineered quartz choices that balance durability, design, and budget.

bUTCHER bLOCK vs. Stainless Steel

When planning your kitchen renovation, choosing the right countertop is essential to achieving both the look and functionality you want. Two popular options for homeowners are wood countertops and stainless steel countertops. Both offer unique advantages depending on your kitchen's style and how you plan to use the space. Here’s a comparison to help you decide which is best for your kitchen remodel.

Wood Kitchen Countertops

Live edge slabs and butcher block countertops provide a warm, natural feel that is perfect for creating a cozy, rustic, or farmhouse-inspired kitchen. Made from thick slabs of wood, typically maple, oak, or walnut, butcher block is a great choice for those who want a workspace that's both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Butcher block is highly durable and can double as a cutting surface, making it ideal for chefs and home cooks. However, it does require regular maintenance, such as oiling to prevent drying or cracking. While it is heat-resistant to a degree, it's recommended to use trivets for hot pots to avoid burn marks. Butcher block can also be prone to staining if spills are not promptly cleaned, and heavy impacts may cause scratches or dents. Despite this, many homeowners love the patina that develops over time, adding character to the kitchen. Stainless Steel Countertops

On the other hand, stainless steel countertops offer a sleek, modern look that's perfect for contemporary kitchens or industrial-style designs. Stainless steel is a highly durable and low-maintenance material, making it a favorite in professional kitchens. It is heat-resistant, so you can place hot pots and pans directly on the surface without worry. Stainless steel is also non-porous, making it resistant to staining and easy to clean—simply wipe it down with a cloth. However, it is more susceptible to scratching and denting than butcher block, though these imperfections tend to blend into the surface over time, giving it a worn, yet functional, appeal. Stainless steel is also reflective, which can help brighten up a space and make your kitchen feel larger. a local fabricator is Colorado Custom Stainless, Denver, CO

Expert Tip: Choose your Cabinets First

Cabinets take up the most visual space in your kitchen and should compliment the flooring. To order the countertops we will need to have your kitchen sink/faucet and stove chosen, as they need that info to properly cut it. Backsplash and lighting will come next.
