A place to play

Like you, I want my son to be happy. While that doesn't translate to getting everything he wants all the time, I do tend to give in when he asks for things that build memories that can hopefully carry him through rough times.

This is one of those builds. I'm sure you've thought the same thing as me, "If I could just get my kid to play more outside." So I know that you'll agree with me that creating an outdoor retreat is important; whether you're 4 or 40 you need a space that makes you feel at peace and lets your creativity run wild.

So when Cody drew a picture of his dream clubhouse out of markers and asked for a new place to play, I asked David to build it.

As with all our family projects we try to use re-purposed materials like an old wagon wheel for the ships steering and decking cutoffs for the shingles. "When the roof didn't turn out how he wanted it, Cody made more drawings until David got it just right."

David's immune to my over the top requests by now. I have quite the collection of elaborate family construction projects. The photo below speaks to my sincerity on that. But this is one of my favorites because Cody was able to design and build it with David.
